Fighting Pike County all the way to the end, the Lady Devils came up 5 points short of the 1st place trophy, losing 2-1 on Thursday night in Jackson in the final. Having just defeated Redan 2-1 in the semi-final an hour earlier, the Lady Devils took the first game from the Pirates. The other side of the court would do them no favors as the Pirates were able to take a back and forth Game 2 before jumping out to a big lead in Game 3. Not to be turned away so easily, the Lady Devils stormed back forcing a tight close to the match but ultimately ending up with the second place trophy. Still, coming out of Area 2-AAA with a second place finish was an improvement as the Lady Devils will advance to the GHSA AAA State Playoffs as a 2-seed. The Lady Devils record now stands at 21-8 and they finish 8-2 overall in Area play.
In the semi-final, the Lady Devils were led in serving by senior Chrissy Brown and junior Bailey Weaver with 6 aces apiece. Offensively, freshman Kaitlyn Eidson led with 6 kills while sophomore Alyssa Barnes and junior Jordan Singleton followed with 4 each. Weaver led in assists with 10. Freshmen Lexi Cook and Riley Morgan led the team in Serve Recieve with a 2.0 and 1.85 (out of 3.0) respectively. Defensively, Eidson led the team with 6 digs while Brown and sophomore Harley Morgan added 4 of their own.
In the final, The Lady Devils got 4 aces from Morgan and 3 from Weaver. Eidson and Barnes tallied 8 kills apiece when it mattered the most. Weaver had 12 assists. Morgan notched a 1.78 Serve Recieve score and added 21 digs. Brown was second with 16 in the match.
The Lady Devils have 4 regular season games left on the year, with 3 on Tuesday in Hampton and Senior Night at home on October 4th.
